All of the sales tracking is done automatically - upon signing up for an affiliate program, you are given a unique link that is tied to your account. Every time a purchase is made via that link, you get paid.
Affiliate marketing is usually advertised or promoted on the affiliate's website, but it's not required. Since you're most likely new to affiliate marketing, you won't need a website, so don't worry about spending any money just yet.
So, how exactly are you going to advertise these products? One way is using Squidoo, a website made for people who want to create their own pages, called "lenses". These lenses allow you to post your own content, including text, links, and images - kind of like a blog. Squidoo is a great website for affiliate marketers due to its simplicity. All you have to do is pick a specific product you plan on promoting, setup a lens, and write a review that includes your affiliate link.
However, if you think Squidoo isn't right for you, there are article directories such as EzineArticles and Article Base. Just like you would do on Squidoo, all you have to do is write a review of the product you're promoting and add your affiliate link at the end of the article. While EzineArticles and Article Base aren't the only article directories you can use, they're the most popular, therefore getting you the traffic you need to earning an affiliate income without owning a website.
Writing may not be your thing, so creating videos and posting them on YouTube might sound better than having to type a review. A video is a great way to show how the product works or showing off what it can do. Your affiliate link can be placed in the video description.
The great thing about these methods is that generating traffic to your unique affiliate link isn't as difficult as it would be if you were doing this all on your own website. The websites mentioned above all have their own system which allows them to generate new traffic everyday, making it a great benefit for a beginner like yourself.
