Should You Promote Physical Affiliate Products?

ByMichael Cervantes
Most of our discussions so far have been focused on how to promote digital information products like e-books, audio programs, and software tools. We want to make it clear, however, that these aren't the only types of products you can promote as an affiliate. As a matter of fact, there is a whole world of physical products out there that you can promote if you choose to go that route.
Think about all the physical products that you purchase in your daily life. Cameras, blow dryers, computers, iPods, electric shavers, food processors, and furniture -- these are just a few examples of the thousands of products available for you to promote as an affiliate. If you're into physical products instead of e-books, you can pretty much promote just about anything you want to!
The sheer volume of products available is one of the big advantages of promoting physical products. Ebooks are still very popular and will most likely continue to be so for the foreseeable future, but there tends to be a lot of competition on affiliate networks like ClickBank that deal exclusively in digital products. Many of the top affiliate marketers end up competing against one another and promoting the same ebooks on weight-loss, bodybuilding, and other popular and lucrative topics. There is still plenty of room in the industry, but it can be more challenging for a novice affiliate marketer to succeed when promoting the same e-books that are being chosen by the top affiliate marketers online.
In contrast, it's pretty hard to imagine that you'll run out of physical products to promote. Not only are there many different categories to choose from, but there are individual brand names and new model numbers coming out all the time.
Are there any drawbacks to promoting physical products? Well, for one thing, the commissions tend to be very low. Amazon.com, for example, tends to give commissions between 5% and 8%. This can seem pretty discouraging, but you shouldn't ignore the huge potential of promoting products on Amazon.com and other e-commerce websites. For one thing, you can focus on products that are over $100 in order to ensure a decent commission. A 5% commission on a $1000 plasma television, refrigerator, or sofa is still going to yield you a nice $50 commission. Not to mention, Amazon.com in particular is very popular with most consumers and will have a higher conversion rate because they are seen as convenient and trustworthy.
The basic idea is pretty simple, as you can simply start a blog in a niche that you're interested in and start writing informative articles about different kinds of products. You could also set up review pages where you discuss the pros and cons of a few different models (and then, of course, you would include your affiliate link for customers to make a purchase).
The process can take time to master, however, as there are many things you need to learn for getting traffic and maximizing your sales conversions.

Affiliate Marketing: A Good Place To Start for Beginners

Affiliate Marketing is a great entry point for new starters into the internet information marketing world. You can run this from home, part-time, in your spare time. One of the main benefits is that you don't have to buy or create a product. The Merchant who owns the product you choose to promote will also supply you with plenty of free marketing tools. The start-up costs are minimal and inexpensive as all you will need to buy is an appropriate domain name and some web hosting. You will need a website, usually in the form of a blog, but don't panic as WordPress and Blogger are both free resources and are easy to set up. Now, those who know me will tell you I'm no technical expert but in my early marketing days I was able to follow the instructions, without asking for help, on both of the blog sites to put together my niche sites and I still use them today. When looking for a product to promote choose something that interests you or something you have knowledge of as th...

How To Set Up A Successful Pay-Per-Click Campaign

If you are familiar with Pay-Per-Click ads, then you know that these types of paid search marketing work by putting ads on the side bar of your search engine or web site and are used to bring people to your web site. The concept is pretty simple. You create an ad.You place a price upon its worth. And you submit it to a search engine. When someone clicks on that ad, you are charged a price for it and they end up on your web site. You only have to pay if someone clicks on it. Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? But now for the tricky question. Are you getting your money's worth from these ads? Ninety-nine percent of the businesses that use this type of advertising do not understand it. They send people to their home page and don't even know why the person came there in the first place. What's worse is the person who cost you that advertising cost leaves without you ever knowing what they were looking for. How much does this cost you each month? Does this mean that you...
