In today's article, I would like to discuss a simple but powerful plan for building a long-term business with affiliate marketing. Unfortunately, many people make things way too complicated and never end up having any success as affiliate marketers, so we would like to clear away the confusion and make it really simple for you to get started.

1. Choose a profitable niche

The first (and perhaps most important) step is to choose a profitable niche. You need to choose something that is lucrative and that has a number of popular affiliate products available with solid commission rates. Many people wonder about whether they should choose a niche that they're interested in. This is one of the most common questions asked in Internet marketing, and it's a pretty controversial topic believe it or not.

You see, many people focus on a topic that they're passionate about and don't bother to check for demand in the marketplace. So although it can be very helpful to pick something that you're interested in if you're going to be working on this for the long term, you have to make sure to choose a profitable niche as well.

2. Set up a WordPress blog.

There are many ways to go about creating an online business, but blogging is one of the most popular benefits, and with good reason. Setting up a WordPress blog makes it easy to manage your content without having to learn a lot of technical stuff like HTML or CSS.

You can simply focus on adding valuable content related to your niche on a regular basis. You could post a new article every day, for example, for a few months in order to gain some traction in your niche. You'll need to give this some time in order to gain momentum, and you'll probably have to perform some additional work like some basic search engine optimization and back linking. Nevertheless, a simple blog with solid and relevant information can ultimately lead to lots of affiliate commissions.

3. Build a list of subscribers

Building an e-mail list is a critical step if you're serious about long-term success in Internet marketing. Many beginners make the mistake of ignoring this step simply because they think it is too difficult to build a list, or because they have been told that building a list is only for marketers who have their own products to sell.

The truth is that building a subscriber list can give you a long-term asset with the potential for many repeat sales over time. Building a subscriber list doesn't have to be difficult, either, as long as you know the basic steps.
