Why Building a List Is Critical for Affiliate Marketers

ByMichael Cervantes

If you have been involved in affiliate marketing for any length of time and don't have an e-mail list of subscribers, then you are seriously limiting your long-term sales potential. In this article, we would like to discuss why it's so important for affiliate marketers to build an e-mail subscriber list.

If you've been following the conventional wisdom concerning affiliate marketing, then you've probably been following a simple plan that goes something like this. You look for a profitable niche where there's money to be made, either an information niche like weight loss and dog training or some sort of physical product you can promote on Amazon. You then do some keyword research in order to find a term that is easy to rank for, and then you get started building a simple website (possibly a WordPress blog).

Does this basic process sound familiar? If so, it's really not so surprising. These are some of the basic steps that many people use to get started in affiliate marketing. There is a critical step missing, however, from this entire equation, and you need to learn this right away if you're serious about your long-term business plans.

The critical step that you have been missing is, of course, list building. You see, affiliate marketing by its very nature sends traffic to a merchant's website in order to make commissions on sales. That's all fine and good, but you have to realize that your visitors probably spend very little time on your own website, and you're not building any kind of long-term asset.

Because you're not selling your own products, you're not building your brand name or your own credibility as an expert. You're simply sending your visitors to another website where they can make a purchase and give you a small commission.

The long-term benefit will go straight to the merchant who is going to become known as the "go to place" for this particular market. So if you want to take full advantage of your traffic and build a long-term asset, then you need to begin building an e-mail list right away. This will give you the potential for multiple sales over time instead of simply referring people to another website and never seeing them again.

Once you've built that e-mail list, you can provide them with valuable content and periodically promote additional affiliate products (which means you'll make even more money over the long term). You also have the option of eventually selling your own products to your subscribers instead of continuing to promote other people's products.

The start-up costs are minimal and inexpensive as all you will need to buy is an appropriate domain name and some web hosting. When looking for a product to promote choose something that interests you or something you have knowledge of as th...

How To Set Up A Successful Pay-Per-Click Campaign

If you are familiar with Pay-Per-Click ads, then you know that these types of paid search marketing work by putting ads on the side bar of your search engine or web site and are used to bring people to your web site. The concept is pretty simple. You create an ad.You place a price upon its worth. And you submit it to a search engine. When someone clicks on that ad, you are charged a price for it and they end up on your web site. You only have to pay if someone clicks on it. Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? But now for the tricky question. Are you getting your money's worth from these ads? Ninety-nine percent of the businesses that use this type of advertising do not understand it. They send people to their home page and don't even know why the person came there in the first place. What's worse is the person who cost you that advertising cost leaves without you ever knowing what they were looking for. How much does this cost you each month? Does this mean that you...
